I am grandmother. Remember that person who always brought a smile to your face for being the one who always heard you, the one who loved you no matter what, the one who laughed at whatever you said whether or not that was funny! I am that person.

“Careful, it’s slippery!” I called out as we made our way to the hilltop.
Adilkahsmi, Balli, Nagavalli and I are visiting the Rama temple on the hilltop. With Janmastami two days ago, the cultural feast at the temple is still going on.
“Careful, Balli”, I shouted again with concern. But it did not stop him from kicking the small stones on his way.
“What snacks did you bring?” Nagavalli asked, as we all carried little pouches of snacks made at home for Janmastami.
“Patience is a virtue! Wait till we reach the top” I teased.
Balli momentarily stopped kicking stones but continued realising that I would not reveal till we reached the top.
After hiking a little more, we reached the temple at the top, quickly had our darshan and gathered under a tree.
“Time to open the pouches!” exclaimed Balli with all his subdued excitement bursting out!
As soon as Adilakshmi opened her pouch, everyone’s eyes widened. “Chegodilu!” we shouted in unison, reaching in with eager hands.
Within moments, all the Chegodilu vanished, leaving Adilakshmi empty-handed.
“Here, take some,” I offered a few of mine back to Adilakshmi.
“Thanks,” Adilakshmi smiled, as we munched on the crispy rings, wearing a few on each other's fingers playfully.

“I am hungry, Amma,” I said as my mother and I reached home. It was a little late in the afternoon by the time we returned from the temple at the hilltop. The celebration today lasted longer than expected. And I am hungry, having had nothing since morning. “I will make something quick”, she said. […]
