Wondering who I am?
I am grandmother.Remember that person who always brought a smile to your face for being
the one who always heard you,
the one who loved you no matter what,
the one who laughed at whatever you said whether or not that was funny!
I am that person.
grandma says...
It started drizzling as we sat on the balcony. It was one of those rare evenings when Gangadharam and I found time to slow down and simply be with each other.
“In Dharanikota, whenever it rains, Amma would make hot punugulu,” I said, watching the drizzle turn into rain. “We all siblings would enjoy sitting in the backyard, sharing laughs and teasing each other. But the highlight was always Amma’s quick putnala chutney. It made everything taste better.”
He smiled, listening to the simple and happy moments I was sharing.
After a pause, he asked hesitantly, “Can we make it now? A quick batch of punugulu and chutney?”
I looked at him and nodded with a smile. I started preparing the batter while he looked around, searching for something. Smiling, I handed him a jar.
“What’s this?” he asked, tasting a pinch of the powder.
“Putnala chutney premix made by Amma,” I said, carefully turning the punugulu in the hot oil. “Just mix it with water and season it. The chutney will be ready.”
He made the chutney while I transferred the punugulu onto a plate. “Hurry up, We need to enjoy this before the rain stops!” he said with childlike laughter.
We took our plates back to the balcony. For me, it wasn’t the rush to enjoy the punugulu with the rain that mattered. The simple joy of his company, the togetherness, and the comfort of sharing this peaceful moment is all that mattered.
