Wondering who I am?
I am grandmother.Remember that person who always brought a smile to your face for being
the one who always heard you,
the one who loved you no matter what,
the one who laughed at whatever you said whether or not that was funny!
I am that person.
grandma says...
“What do you want for dinner tonight?” I asked my children as we sat together in the living room.
“We are leaving for India tomorrow, can we have Falafel one last time?” Srijanani suggested.
My husband, Gangadharam, has been working in Israel, and my children and I joined him for a two-month vacation during the summer holidays. The local cuisine, Falafel, has turned out to be kids' favourite.
While the kids went to their rooms to get ready for dinner, I quietly served a plate of dosa with peanut chutney to Gangadharam.
“Once you are out with the kids, it will take time to get back. Eat this while they are getting ready,” I said, setting the plate in front of him.
He took a bite and paused. “I missed this,” he said. “The comfort of home food… it just feels differently.”
I nodded, understanding his words. It wasn’t just the food—it was the connection to home, to memories.
“I have packed some peanut chutney premix for you,” I said, holding up the little transparent packet. “Just mix it with warm water, and you can have it with dosa, idli, or upma whenever you miss home.”
“Where are you keeping it?” he asked with gleaming eyes.
“In the first drawer on the left,” I replied, as I flipped the dosa on the pan.
No matter where life takes us, there is something about the taste of home that always brings warmth and comfort, filling the heart as much as it does the stomach.
